ESS Mini-Conferences

ESS is proud to continue its long-standing tradition of holding space for advanced sociological subfields at its annual conference. These mini-conferences have become an integral and enriching component of our program, offering scholars with shared interests the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and deepen their research.

We have received a number of exceptional proposals for mini-conferences for our 97th Annual Conference, taking place March 4–7, 2027, in Philadelphia. The theme is: “Understanding Difference in a Divided Age”. Unfortunately, we could not accept all of them. You can find descriptions of each here.

The 2027 mini-conferences include:

  • Military Sociology

  • Sociology of Reproduction

  • Understanding Differences within Health Professions Education and Delivery

  • Teaching Sociology

  • Environmental Sociology: Examining environmental crisis across difference

  • Peopling Politics: Race, Class, and Inequality in US Politics

  • Narratives of Labor and Technology

  • Diasporic Womanist Sociology

  • Transnational Asian/America 3.0: Difference Across Borders in a Divided Age

  • Decolonizing Sociology

  • Black Placemaking in a Divided Age: Difference, Power, and the Possibilities of Worldmaking

We invite you to explore our past conference programs to learn more about these mini-conferences and their presenters.

Thank you for your continued support of, and commitment to, ESS.
