Visiting Position: Roanoke College

Roanoke College invites applications for a full-time lecturer in sociology beginning in August
2018. This is a non-tenure- track position which meets an ongoing staffing need with the
expectation of renewal. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach classes in crime
and violence, juvenile delinquency, criminal justice, and deviance. Background in and ability to
teach other general areas of sociology and criminal justice is a plus, but not required.
Applicants should have a Master’s Degree (or higher) in Sociology or Criminal Justice (or related
field) or will have such degree by start of the semester in which the position begins. Teaching
responsibilities are divided between introductory level and upper-level courses and include
participation in the college’s general education program. The teaching load is 7 courses per
year. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity
and excellence of the College’s academic programs through internships, community
engagement, service learning activities, innovative learning designs, and providing students
with experiential learning opportunities.
The department supports thriving B.A. programs in sociology and public health studies with
concentrations in anthropology and crime, deviance, and social control. Roanoke College is a
nationally ranked, residential, liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA),
