Miniconference on Culture and Cognition

Eastern Sociological Society

February 23-26, 2017

Research on the intersections of culture and cognition is an area of growing interest within sociology and other fields. The Eastern Sociological Society is once again sponsoring a miniconference on this topic to bring together scholars working in this exciting field of research.

We invite submissions related to culture and cognition and welcome papers from a range of areas of culture and cognition research including the following topics:

  • theoretical aspects of culture and cognition research
  • methods in cognitive sociology
  • connections between cultural sociology and cognitive sciences
  • cultural cognitive perception and attention
  • cultural priming and framing
  • cognition and social meaning
  • symbolism, metaphor, and moral meanings
  • categories, boundaries, and identities
  • cognition, identities, and social inequalities
  • time and memory

Abstracts must be submitted by October 15th, 2016. Please direct inquiries to Wayne Brekhus (brekhusw@missouri.edu) or Gabe Ignatow (ignatow@unt.edu). Submit a title and abstract of no more than 250 words, along with your name as it should appear in the ESS program, institutional affiliation and contact information, through the ESS online abstract submission system. In the “Submission Details” window, select “Paper” for “Type of Submission,” and select keyword: miniconference: Culture and Cognition for “Select the topic area that best describes your submission.”
