Tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor, University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati Department of Sociology invites applicants for a tenure‐track  position at the Assistant or Associate level to begin August 15, 2017. The focus of the position is urban inequalities, including but not limited to such concerns as  health, education, crime and punishment, and racial and ethnic relations. A PhD in Sociology or  a related field by August 14, 2017 is required. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of fit  with the department’s areas of expertise, and record of or potential for scholarly research and  publication, extramural funding, teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate  levels, service to the department, university, and profession, and participation in  interdisciplinary research teams. This position is a part of a $4 million Urban Futures Initiative by the University of Cincinnati (UC)  to recruit five faculty members in Sociology, Urban Planning, Criminal Justice, Education, and  Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Unless a joint appointment is desired, the selected  candidate will hold a full appointment in the Department of Sociology. As part of the initiative,  the faculty member will be provided funds to select and work with an Urban Scholar Graduate  Fellow and an Urban Scholar Undergraduate Research Assistant. UC is a large public research university (R1) with a diverse student body in the heart of  Cincinnati, a beautiful river city that combines the amenities of a major metropolis with a smalltown cost of living (cincinnatiusa.com). Sociology is a PhD‐granting department  (artsci.uc.edu/departments/sociology) and houses the endowed Kunz Center for Social  Research (artsci.uc.edu/departments/sociology/kunz). Sociology is also one of thirteen  departments affiliated with the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center (artsci.uc.edu/taft), which  disburses approximately $1.4 million per year in grants to faculty and students. Finally, the  department founded The Cincinnati Project (thecincyproject.org), which sponsors research  benefitting disadvantaged Cincinnati communities. UC has a spousal/domestic partner hiring  program for dual‐career households.
