Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the program. We are delighted to announce that the Preliminary Program for the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Eastern Sociological Society is now available and can be viewed on this page or through the ESS website at http://essnet.org.

The meeting will be held February 23-26, 2012, at the Broadway Millennium Hotel in New York City.

Please note that this program reflects scheduling only, and special sessions such as thematics are not labeled as such. In most smaller sessions we have assigned presiders. It will be up to the presider to define his or her own role, whether it will be simply to preside or also to comment. The undergraduate poster sessions are not yet reflected in this program but undergraduates will receive word shortly.

Please read all of the information below and keep this in a safe place. If you are not wondering about some of these things now, you probably will be later!

Searching the Program: If you are a participant, you can find your sessions by searching the Index of Participants. Because of the unprecedented number of submissions, we were only able to accept at most one single authored/two coauthored papers per participant. If you cannot find yourself, please email the committee at 2012easterns@gmail.com

Changes to Program: The committee worked diligently to honor requests and be sensitive to people's time and space needs. The schedule may not be perfect for all, but we ask, if at all possible, that you go with your current session assignment. If we have committed errors, double-booked, or if there is some truly urgent reason for change, you can email the committee at 2012easterns@gmail.com. PLEASE NOTE: Corrections will not be reflected in the online program until you receive notice that a new version is up.

AV Support: Projectors and screens will be available for all regular sessions. You must bring your own laptop (and the connection cord if you have an Apple computer) -- or arrange with someone else in your session to share. Roundtable sessions will not have AV equipment. Use of handouts is encouraged at roundtables.

Membership and Registration: Unless you have received Presidential dispensation, ALL presenters in the discipline must be ESS members and must register for the meeting. Undergrads whose institutions hold a Departmental Membership do not have to pay for ESS membership but all undergrads will have to register for the meeting at the nominal $10 Undergraduate rate. (Undergrads, your department chair can join online at our website). Non-sociologists may opt for a "non-member" registration. Registration and Membership can be taken care of online in the Annual Meeting section of our website http://essnet.org.

Hotel Reservations: The conference hotel is the NY Broadway Millennium Hotel. Room rate is $189 plus taxes per night for a standard single or double. ESS gets access to meeting space in the hotel by committing to a certain level of "room nights" from our attendees during the course of the conference. If we do not hit that number, we pay a hefty charge – so we ask that you support the society by staying in the hotel if at all possible. The cut off date for reservations is February 1 – but don't tarry; it will fill up. You can make your reservations through the Annual Meeting tab of the ESS website at http://essnet.org. A roommate matching service is available through the hotel tab on our website: (http://essnet.org/AnnualMeeting_hotel.aspx ).

Welcome to the program! We look forward to seeing you in New York!

2011-2012 President, Eastern Sociological Society
