The winner of the Candace Rogers Award for 2011 was Jessica McCrory Calarco of the University of Pennsylvania for "Can You Help Me Get Ahead? Social Class Differences in Elementary Students’ Efforts to Negotiate Opportunities for Learning"
The Candace Rogers Award Committee invites submissions for the 2012 Candace Rogers Award. This award is given annually at the ESS meeting to a graduate student for an outstanding paper on any current social issue. The paper should be in a style suitable for publication in a professional journal and should not exceed 35 double-spaced pages, including tables and references; papers over that length will not be considered. The paper may not be previously published or forthcoming in a professional journal. It may not be coauthored, and its author must be a graduate student at the time the paper is submitted.
The award will be announced and presented at a special session at the annual meeting which will be in New York, February 23-26. The recipient must be an ESS member at the time the award is presented and is expected to be at the meeting to receive the award. Eligible students are encouraged to submit three hard copies or an electronic version of their paper postmarked by September 30, 2011 to the committee chair. No papers postmarked after this date will be accepted for any reason.
