Dear Colleagues,

The Preliminary Program for the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Eastern Sociological Society has been updated to reflect changes and corrections.  It is now available and can be viewed here

Preliminary Program January 15, 2014

The meeting will be held February 20-23, 2014, at the Baltimore Hilton. Undergraduate Posters are now included in this Preliminary Program.  Student travel awards have been posted on the ESS website (http://www.essnet.org/?page_id=64).  You will note that in most paper and roundtable sessions we have assigned Presiders. It will be up to the presider to define his or her own role, whether it will be simply to preside or also to comment.

Searching the Program:  If you are a participant, you can find your sessions by searching the Index of Participants.  Because of the number of submissions, we were only able to accept at most one single authored/two coauthored papers per participant.  If you cannot find yourself, please email the committee at easterns2014@gmail.com

Changes to Program: We consider this to be the final program.  If we have committed egregious errors, double-booked, or if there is some truly urgent reason for change, you can email the committee at easterns2014@gmail.com. Such change requests must be received by January 22

AV Support: PowerPoint projectors will be available for all regular sessions. You must bring your own laptop (and the connection cord if you have an Apple computer) — or arrange with someone else in your session to share. Roundtable sessions will not have AV equipment. Use of handouts is encouraged at roundtables.

Interpretation:  We plan to provide sign-language interpretation for Friday and Saturday plenary sessions, and for the Deafness and Society Mini-Conference on Saturday.  Participants with additional requests/questions about interpretation, or other access issues, should contact us at ess2014.access@gmail.com.

Membership and Registration:  Unless you have received Presidential dispensation, ALL presenters in the discipline must be ESS members and must register for the meeting.  Undergrads whose institutions hold a Departmental Membership do not have to pay for ESS membership but all undergrads will have to register for the meeting at the nominal $10 Undergraduate rate. (Undergrads, your department chair can join online at our website).  Non-sociologists may opt for a “non-member” registration.  Registration and Membership can be taken care of online in the Annual Meeting section of our website http://essnet.org. Preregistration online will be available until midnight February 14th. Mailed registrations and memberships must be in our hands by February 17th.  After that, membership and registration will be available onsite at the conference; registration fees will be $10 more onsite.

Hotel Reservations: The conference hotel is the Baltimore Hilton.  Room rate is $175 plus taxes per night for a standard single or double.  ESS gets access to meeting space in the hotel by committing to a certain level of “room nights” from our attendees during the course of the conference.  If we do not hit that number, we pay a hefty charge – so we ask that you support the society by staying in the hotel if at all possible. The cutoff date for reservations is January 29 – but don’t tarry; it will fill up.  You can make your reservations through the Annual Meeting tab of the ESS website at http://essnet.org. A roommate matching service is available through the hotel tab on our website. Make sure to choose “Attendee” in first dialog box: https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&eventID=10841366

We look forward to seeing you in Baltimore!
