The updated version of the Preliminary Program for this 2015 Annual Meeting of the Eastern Sociological Society is now available and can be viewed here
Student travel awards have been posted on the ESS website and the winners also have been individually alerted.
Searching the Program: If you are a participant or presider, you can find your sessions by searching the Index of Participants. If you cannot find yourself, please email the committee at firstname.lastname@example.org
Participants/Panelists: For most regular paper sessions and roundtables, PRESENTATIONS SHOULD BE CAPPED AT 15 MINUTES. Please plan your presentation accordingly.
Presiders have been assigned to all paper and roundtable sessions. It will be up to the presider to define his or her own role, whether it will be simply to preside or also to comment. Because of the unprecedented number of papers, many paper sessions and roundtables have as many as 5 presenters assigned. We therefore urge presiders to help us keep on track by beginning sessions promptly and by managing time based on the number of presenters so that there will be some open discussion at the end of each session. Unless otherwise noted, the length for each session is 1.5 hours.
Please read all of the information below and keep this in a safe place. If you are not wondering about some of these things now, you probably will be later!
Changes to Program: The committee worked diligently to capture your changes and to correct errors. . The schedule may not be perfect for all, but we ask, if at all possible, that you go with your current session assignment. If there remain any egregious errors, you can email the committee at email@example.com. PLEASE NOTE: there will not be another updated version posted. All efforts at this point go into creating the final print program.
AV Support: PowerPoint projectors and screens will be available for all regular sessions. You must bring your own laptop (and the connection cord if you have an Apple computer) — or arrange with someone else in your session to share. Roundtable sessions will not have AV equipment. Use of handouts is encouraged at roundtables.
Access: Participants with access requests should contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include “ACCESS” in the subject field.
Membership and Registration: Unless you have received Presidential dispensation, ALL presenters in the discipline must be ESS members and must register for the meeting BY FEBRUARY 10 to be included in the program. Undergrads whose institutions hold a Departmental Membership do not have to pay for ESS membership but all undergrads will have to register for the meeting at the nominal $10 Undergraduate rate. (Undergrads, your department chair can join online at our website). Non-sociologists may opt for a “non-member” registration. Registration and Membership can be taken care of online directly at https://secure.acceptiva.
Hotel Reservations: The conference hotel is the Millennium Broadway Hotel. Room rate is $195 plus taxes per night for a standard single or double. ESS gets access to meeting space in the hotel by committing to a certain level of “room nights” from our attendees during the course of the conference. If we do not hit that number, we pay a hefty charge – so we ask that you support the society by staying in the hotel if at all possible. The cutoff date for reservations is February 4th – but don’t tarry; it will fill up. You can make your reservations through the Annual Meeting tab of the ESS website at http://essnet.org. A roommate matching service is available through the hotel tab on our website. Make sure to choose “Attendee” in first dialog box: https://reservations.millenniumhotels.com/ibe/details.aspx?propertyid=13507&nights=1&checkin=02/25/2015&group=022515ESSS
We look forward to seeing you in New York!
